One of his brothers did this to him because his mom told him to take care “it” himself. Then his dad told him not to be a baby and cry. But, when he was crying in my classroom, I got the police involved. They came, but they decided they couldn’t get involved since he gave them differing stories. My heart sunk to my knees at a system too damaged to intervene and for a child that I had to let go back “home” at the end of the day. He hid his face, but not his back, while the “adults” stewed in their denial.
